Super Rugby champions the Chiefs have suffered another blow to their backline as Tim Nanai-Williams has been ruled out until after June.
The New Zealand Rugby Union have also blocked a Chiefs attempt to draft in backline cover from overseas to cover their player losses.
Nanai-Williams is expected to be back only after the June break after he was hospitalised with a stomach ulcer.
The loss of Nanai-Williams comes after the Chiefs have already lost Charlie Ngatai, Andrew Horrell and Richard Kahui in the midfield.
Chiefs Coach Dave Rennie says they had a player lined up to join them as cover but the NZRU would not allow them to proceed.
"We tried to get a replacement, we actually had a really good option overseas," Rennie told Newstalk ZB.
"He was keen to come, his club was going to release him and New Zealand (Rugby Union) wouldn't allow it so we're back to square one."
