The Blue Bulls scored seven tries on their way to hammering the Griquas 10-52 in Kimberley on Saturday.

The Blue Bulls scored two first half tries but pulled away in the second half with a further five tries.

The victory keeps the Blue Bulls alive in the Currie Cup keeping the pressure on the Golden Lions and Free State Cheetahs.

The Blue Bulls have a big test next weekend as they face the Sharks and then they face the Cheetahs in what could be a decider for the last place in the Semi-finals.

Griquas, however, can start planning for the upcoming promotion/relegation playoff matches.

Griquas started the brighter of the two sides, but it was the Blue Bulls who drew first blood from a penalty by flyhalf Handre Pollard in the eighth minute.

Flank Wiaan Liebenberg added to their after a good driving maul by the visitors.

Pollard missed the conversion, but the Bulls enjoyed an eight point cushion which increased when Jacques du Plessis scored. Pollard's conversion stretched the lead to 15.

Shortly before half-time, Griquas finally made it onto the scoreboard after a penalty-try was awarded to the hosts.

Griquas put the Bulls under immense pressure in the scrums and, after conceding numerous penalties in that area, referee Quinton Immelman awarded the penalty-try and yellow-carded to Bulls prop Marcell van der Merwe.

The Bulls were 15-10 ahead at the break and a Pollard penalty stretched their lead at the start of the second half.

Griquas tried to claw their way back, but the Bulls had the momentum and used their lead to their advantage when centre William Small-Smith scored his side's third try of the afternoon.

The Bulls scored their bonus point try in the 50th minute when lock Paul Willemse burst over from an driving maul.

Pollard again converted and added another penalty shortly thereafter to put the game beyond the hosts.

Small-Smith scored his second try of the afternoon after Griquas failed to patch-up the holes in their defence.

Pollard was called into service again to convert lock Willemse's second try and a try by fullback Jurgen Visser completed the scoring.
