Super Rugby finalists the Brumbies have released South African-born Etienne Oosthuizen from the final year of his contract after he made contact with coaching staff from the Lions.
Oosthuizen played for the Lions before he joined the Brumbies and went on to make three appearances for the Canberra side in 2013 as well as the historic win over the British and Irish Lions during their tour of Australia.
Forwards Coach, Laurie Fisher wished Oosthuizen the best of luck in the future.
"Etienne came to us with a request that he stay in Africa where his family is based rather than return to the Brumbies, " Fisher said.
"It's a situation that we could sympathise with and we were able to organise a release, effective immediately.
"We wish Etienne all the best in the future."
