Victor Matfield is reportedly in training to make a return for the Bulls in next year's Super Rugby season, over two years after the Springboks great and World Cup winner retired.
The SuperSport website says the 36-year-old Matfield and former South Africa flyhalf Derick Hougaard are both looking to make short-term playing returns. They are currently members of the Pretoria-based Bulls' coaching team.
Matfield, who retired after the 2011 World Cup, was linked with a return for the Springboks last year.
That didn't happen, but the 110-cap second-rower may be encouraged by recent international recalls for former team mates Bakkies Botha, Fourie du Preez and Jaque Fourie, all 2007 World Cup winners alongside Matfield.
Matfield hinted that he might be open to an international return in a column in August.
