The Hurricanes have announced that they will play their final Super Rugby pre-season warm up match in Levin against the Crusaders.

The Hurricanes The Hurricanes, along with the Horowhenua Kapiti Rugby Union, announced the match would be held at the Levin Domain on February 14 - Valentine's day.

Hurricanes coach Mark Hammett said although there may not be too much love exchanged on the field, he was expecting to see a lot of couples nestled amongst the Levin crowd.

"Who wouldn’t want to spend Valentine’s Day at a rugby match in Levin? It’s the perfect place for the fellas to take their ladies, " he said.

Romantic talk aside, Hammett said the team couldn’t wait to get back to Levin after a successful outing against the Crusaders there in June 2013.

"We had a great time there last time. Some of our most loyal fans are stationed there, so to play our last pre-season match in front of them will be exciting for everyone. "

Hurricanes chief executive James Te Puni said he was blown away by the support the Horowhenua Kapiti region showed the Hurricanes during the mid-year game against the Crusaders earlier this year.

"We had over 5000 people turn up in the middle of a storm last June. That was great to see and we’re hoping for another big crowd at this game. "

Horowhenua Kapiti Rugby Union chief executive Corey Kennett said the union was extremely grateful to be hosting the Hurricanes and Crusaders again, following the success of the 2013 fixture.

"We would like to thank the Hurricanes for their continued support in allowing this game to come to Levin, " he said.

"This time around, we’re also looking forward to potentially having an increased number of spectators, especially since this fixture is most likely to feature many All Blacks from both teams. "

Mr Kennett said rugby was typically described as a passion-filled sport, therefore, the Valentine’s Day match would be great for the romantics in their community.

Kick-off for the pre-season fixture is scheduled for 4pm. Further ticket information will be available soon.
