The Lions have suffered an early double blow to the start of their Super Rugby season as they have lost Michael Bondesio and Lionel Mapoe for six weeks.
The Lions beat the Cheetahs 20-21 in their first Super Rugby match in a year and a half but Bondesio had to withdraw shortly before the match.
Scrumhalf Bondesio took part in the Lions captain's run training session on Friday before the match and sustained a grade two quad strain.
Lions medics have predicted Bondesio will be out of action for approximately six weeks.
The Lions medics also revealed that Lionel Mapoe strained his right hamstring during Saturday's match in Bloemfontein and will also be out for up to six weeks.
Meanwhile the Lions added that Anthony Volmink and Elton Jantjies who are both recovering from shoulder injuries, continue to make solid progress and will be considered for this weekend's Vodacom Cup warm-up game against the Pumas.
