All Blacks and Blues hooker Keven Mealamu says that he has started running and is slowly making his return to the Super Rugby field.
The former Blues captain has missed the Blues last three Super Rugby matches and although he traveled with the squad to South Africa he returned early.
Mealamu had to withdraw from the squad that played against the Bulls in Pretoria after suffering a low grade calf strain late in that week.
The Blues sent Mealamu home before their match against the Lions in order to give him time to be ready for the Cheetahs match but he missed that match as well.
This week he will also sit out the Blues match on Saturday against the Highlanders at Eden Park due to his troublesome calf injury.
Mealamu says that he it is not a serious grade injury and that he will be able to pick up his workload from now.
"Just started some running on the treadmill and we'll start doing some field based running this week, and then obviously getting back into some scrummaging stuff and some of that position-specific stuff.
"I'm looking forward to getting back out there," Mealamu to NewstalkZB.
