Rebels captain Scott Higginbotham says that a lack of experience contributed to their 22-16 Super Rugby loss to the Chiefs in Hamilton.

The Chiefs were leading 19-6 at half time but the Rebels took control of the match and won the second half 3-10 on the scoreboard.

Even though Higginbotham spent 10 minutes in the sin bin at at a critical stage the Rebels kept the scoreboard ticking with a series of penalties from Jason Woodward.

In the final five minutes of the contest the Chiefs lost Pauliasi Manu to the sin bin and the Rebels had the ball in the Chiefs 22 but they were unable to use the numbers advantage and add to their score.

The Rebels have never won a Super Rugby match outside of Australia and have never beaten the Chiefs in three attempts but in both of their last two matches they have finished within six points.

"We didn't start well and the Chiefs did that, then we just panicked at the end there," said Higginbotham after the match

"It's not good enough."

"It's just a bit of lack of experience," said the Rebels captain.
