Hurricanes captain Conrad Smith said that he was pleased to have picked up their second away victory of the season when they beat the Rebels 15-25 in Melbourne.
The Hurricanes lost 39-30 the Waratahs in Sydney last week and the loss cost them the top spot in the New Zealand conference.
Victory over the Rebels moved the Hurricanes into second place in the NZ Conference ahead of matches against the Highlanders, Chiefs and Crusaders.
"We knew it was going to be tough here and we knew it was going to be an arm wrestle and that's how it turned out," said Conrad Smith who scored the only Hurricanes try.
"We're just happy to win some because sometimes it has been the fault of the Hurricanes, when it gets tight we go missing."
"We've worked hard to get back to where we are and we managed one win from our two Aussie games and we've got a hard road against our New Zealand buddies for the rest of the competition."
