The New Zealand Rugby Union have terminated All Blacks and Crusaders winger Zac Guildford's contract with immediate effect.
Guildford was contracted to play for the Crusaders until the end of the season but has not been used by coach Todd Blackadder this season.
NZRU General Manager Neil Sorensen says that after discussions with the Crusaders it was decided to end his contract immediately instead of letting it run.
"We're really disappointed that Zac has not be able to achieve his full potential in New Zealand," said Sorensen.
"He is a good man, talented but troubled."
The All Black world cup winner's career has suffered a number of setbacks for off-field incidents and last year he admitted to seeking treatment for alcoholism.
Guildford agreed to join Clermont Auvergne earlier this year and he is now free to join the Top14 Rugby club in France.
