Crusaders captain Ryan Crotty has admitted that they lost their game in the first half of their 16-9 loss to the Hurricanes in Wellington.

The Crusaders managed to stay on top of the Super Rugby standings despite the loss as they picked up a losing bonus point from the result but they will be under pressure in their remaining matches.

The seven time champion Crusaders play the Blues next week and then finish their season against the Highlanders with both matches at home in Christchurch.

Crotty said that they physicality and urgency were missing in the opening half and it cost them the match.

"The physicality wasn't quite there, our urgency wasn't there either, " said Crotty after the match.

"They were beating us to the ball, and their break down was better than us."

"It means we're desperate in the last two weeks," he said.

Hurricanes captain Jeremy Thrush said that he was pleased with the way his team mates stuck at it in defence.

"It was a great effort, the boys just never gave up," said Thrush.

"The boys worked so bloody hard on defence to keep them out.

"Set piece was a bit of trouble - they're world class there - but the rest of our game we kept the attitude up and came away with a good result."
