Former Super Rugby champions the Reds have launched a recruitment drive in Fiji as they look to rebound from a disappointing Super Rugby season this year.

The Reds won the Super Rugby title under Ewen McKenzie un 2011 but after he left last year to coach the Wallabies the Reds have slipped and this year they finished in 13th place.

Queensland operations manager and former Wallaby scrum-half Sam Cordingley has been scouting for talent in Fiji and attended the Fiji local league semi-final between Nadroga and Suva on Saturday.

Cordingley said that he was working on gettting the Reds back with the top Super Rugby teams and looking for talent in Fiji is a good place to start.

"We have a number of foreign positions within our senior squad which open up opportunities for Fijian players and we are also open to developing players within our academy," Cordingley told AFP.

The Reds had two Fijians in their squad this year Chris Kuridrani and Samu Kerevi although they had limited game time in the Super Rugby season.

"There is also a large Fijian community within Brisbane and with the short distance between Queensland and Fiji it obviously makes the transition for players easier," Cordingley said.
