All Blacks and Auckland Blues lock Ali Williams has been reported to be considering a move to play for Tasman and the Crusaders next year.

The Press newspaper said an announcement was expected this week that world class forward Williams would make the move south in 2008.

Williams endured an unhappy season under Blues coach David Nucifora in this year’s Super 14, after returning from the All Blacks’ reconditioning duties.

He struggled to get regular starts and was sent home before the semi-final against the Sharks in Durban for breaking team off-field protocols while in Australia.

Williams, who has played 42 tests, comes off contract with the New Zealand Rugby Union (NZRU) at the end of the year.

He would be the ideal replacement at both Tasman and the Crusaders for All Blacks locking partner Chris Jack, who has signed with London club Saracens.

Williams could not move to Canterbury because of salary cap restrictions.
