The Brumbies arrived in Pretoria on Friday night only a week after the Australian rugby players association voted for Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria as the worst place to play in the Super 14 tournament. An obvious Bulls welcomed them from the crowd.

Both sides traded penalties early on and the game didn’t really fire but was a much better match than the nights earlier Cats match.

The Brumbies scored a great try which started when Giteau ran round Oliver and then JP Nel and then a great pass to Clyde Rathbone who scored the try in the corner. Mortlock from the corner got the conversion which put the Brumbies in front.

At the stroke of half time Hougaard went for the drop goal and got it over to put the Bulls in front.

Early in the 2nd half the Brumbies were awarded a penalty and Mortlock slotted it over to put the Brumbies back in front.

The Brumbies Hooker David Palavi was taken off on the stretcher with what looked like Hyper extension (leg) injury.

With several Brumbies players suffering from cramp the Brumbies piled on the pressure with several phases including a great run from the Brumbies fullback and from Rathbone who ran through four defenders. At the breakdown Gregan got the ball to the middle and Heenan went over and Mortlock converted.

Once the Brumbies were ahead 15-20 Rathbone had to go off with cramp. While the Bulls backline could have done more all their points were scored by Hougaard who could be blamed for not getting the ball out enough to the line enough to let them fire.

George Smith had a great game, won man of the match and as usual dominated the loose ball. The Brumbies probably could have done a lot more damage had Rathbone not gone off with cramp.

The match ended with a fantastic bit of play by the Brumbies, the kind that they are famous for where most of the team was involved but the stand outs were Giteau who set up Rathbone’s earlier try and Mortlock who scored the final try and kicked the conversions at a rate of 100 %.

Brumbies are now two from two.
