Canberra Super Rugby team the Brumbies have announced that duo Tomas Cubelli and Chris Alcock have announced that they will depart the club having completed the 2017 Super Rugby season.

Argentinean scrum-half Cubelli will head back to South America to link up with the Jaguares whilst flanker Alcock goes to Japan to play for Kamaishi Seawaves.

Cubelli signed for the Brumbies at the commencement of the 2016 Super Rugby season, making his debut against the Hurricanes in Round 1, and went on to play eighteen times for the club, his last match being the Quarter Final game against the same opponents this season.

Alcock meanwhile, arrived from Western Force at the start of the 2017 campaign an immediately settled into the flanker position, putting in some outstanding performances and crossing for two tries in thirteen appearances in a Brumbies shirt.

“We would like to thank both Tomas and Chris for their time at the Brumbies,” CEO Michael Thomson commented.

“Both have been outstanding players for the club and have helped foster our culture off the field.”

“While we are sorry to see them both leave the club, we wish them both the very best of luck for the future and they are welcome back at the Brumbies at any time. They will always be part of the Brumby family.”

Both players will leave a legacy at the club despite their relatively short stint in Brumbies colours.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the Brumbies and have nothing but good things to say about my time in Canberra,” Alcock said of his time at the Canberra club.

“Playing at GIO Stadium in front of our loyal supporters was great fun and I believe that the Brumbies have a great young group that can achieve huge things in the future.

I head to Japan for a new adventure in my life and am looking forward to the challenge ahead. Thank you all for your support during my time at the club.”

Cubelli meanwhile will likely play in front of the Canberra support one more time when Argentina head to the National Capital for the Rugby Championship clash with the Wallabies in September.

“I had a very enjoyable two seasons at the Brumbies and thank everyone connected with the club for their support during my time here,” Cubelli said.

“The Brumbies are a very special organisation and I feel privileged to have been able to play for such a great team.

“I have made many friends in Canberra and Australia and am looking forward to hopefully playing in front of many of them in the Rugby Championship match in September.”
