Match detail

We are waiting for the kick-off.

BEEP! BEEP! The Blues start the final fixture of the weekend.

.00: The Blues will have the first scrum inside the Brumbies’ 22. The weather is glorious and Gio Stadium is bathed in sunshine – very unusual for Canberra.

.00: The blues take the ball 15 phases but make no inroads into the Brumbies defence. The Aussies made all their first-time tackles and the Kiwis could not get through, eventually, knocking forward at the breakdown.

.00: Former Blues prop Nic Mayhew wins the turnover but the visitors turn the ball over and go wide. It’s another multiphase play by the New Zealanders and they are camped inside the Brumbies’ 22.

.00: Mayhew makes another steal but, this time, he loses it forward and the Blues will have the scrum feed inside the 22. The Brumbies cannot clear their lines.

.00: The pack weights are pretty even; the Brumbies are in at 904kg and the Blues, 911kg. the scrum is reset.

.00: Wharenui Hawera is penalised for being offside. The Blues have been inside the Brumbies’ 22 for 11 minutes – similar to the Lions against the Stormers a few weeks back. They will take the points.

.00: PENALTY! Bryn Gatland puts the visitors in front.

.00: A scuffle breaks out and the Blues have possession.

.00: The Brumbies win a turnover and have a lineout inside the Blues’ half.

.00: The go wide and Henry Speight takes a crash ball. Akira Ioane is penalised for going off his feet. He did not support his body weight and Hawera will call for the tee.

.00: PENALTY! The standoff makes no mistake, levelling the scores at 3-3.

.00: Speight knocks on near the sideline. The Brumbies are going wide, trying to create one-on-one match-ups. The scrum is between the 22 and the 10 inside Brumbies territory.

.00: The Brumbies win another penalty after Nick Briant catches Gatland offsides. Sam Carter points to the poles.

.00: MISS! Hawera pushes his kick past the left upright; poor kick.

.00: The Brumbies get pinged for a dangerous tackle and the Blues kick to touch. The lineout is 12 metres from the goal line.

.00: Matt Duffie! Wow! The winger – with an acrobatic placement – is just out. 22 restart.

.00: The Blues are on the front foot, deep inside the Brumbies’ 22. Sonny Bill Williams loses the ball forward. Great defence from Andrew Smith.

.00: Hawera clears. The Blues take it quickly and some aerial ping-pong ensues.

.00: Speight loses the ball forward and the visitors will have the scrum feed. It’s near the sideline, 30 metres out from the Brumbies’ try-line.

.00: TRY Matt Duffie! It’s good this time from the wing. The Blues go wide and George Moala stays upright in the contact and gets his offload to Duffie. It’s the ex-Melbourne Storm player’s fifth try of the campaign.

.00: MISS! Gatland can’t add the touchline conversion but the Blues lead just before the break.

.00: Hawera loses the ball and the Blues will have a scrum on centre-field.

.00: Scrum is reset. And the Brumbies win a short-arm penalty. They opt for another scrum.

.00: Joe Powell breaks to his right and sends Tom Banks through a gap. The fullback carries the ball into the Blues’ 22 and offloads to Speight in support, but the winger loses the ball forward; his third handling error of the half.

.00: Piers Francis kicks the ball out after Augustine Pulu brought it back into the 22. Lineout to the Brumbies in good field position.

.00: The hooter sounds and Banks knocks the ball forward right under the posts. The Brumbies went a dozen phases but had a penalty advantage. They kick to touch and have the lineout, five metres out.

.00: It’s held up in the maul and the Blues survive a late scare. Poor call by the Australians. Take the points. BEEP! BEEP!

.00: PENALTY! It’s good from the standoff and the Brumbies are in front.

Looking at the Super Rugby matches so far I suggest to reduce super rugby teams to 10 to play in 2 conference. NZ conference: 5 teams: Blues, Chiefs, Hurricane, Crusaders & Highlanders. Rest conference: 5 teams: Jaguares, Sunwolves, East SA, West SA, & Australia.
