The Bulls will take Derick Hougaard to Durban, even though he has not been confirmed fit to start Saturday’s Super 14 derby against the Sharks.

Media manager Ian Swartz confirmed on Friday, as the Bulls left OR Tambo International, that tighthead prop Danie Thiart has recovered from an elbow injury to be officially confirmed fit for Saturday’s clash.

However, Hougaard is still in doubt.

But in a demonstration of coach Heyneke Meyer’s belief in his first-choice fly-half, Hougaard will fly to Durban in the hope that either at the Captain’s Run on Friday or early Saturday morning in Durban he can confirm his fitness for Super 14 rugby.

Jacques-Louis Potgieter will also fly to Durban as back-up, should Hougaard be unable to play and additional cover needed for replacement pivot Morn’ Steyn.
