Cheetahs suffer early scare

Cheetahs coach Rassie Erasmus confirmed yesterday that Prop Van der Linde hurt his left foot during the Springboks’ year-end tour to Argentina, Wales and France in November. Van der Linde went for a scan yesterday to assess the injury but as yet the results are not yet known.

“We hope CJ just hurt a nerve rather than fracturing a bone,” said Erasmus. “If it is a nerve, he will be able to play much sooner than if he is suffering from a broken bone.”

Erasmus said that other than one or two players like Van der Linde the squad was in good shape. “We have developed a good team spirit and the players are looking forward to the Super 14,” said Erasmus.

“We did skills training and conditioning in December and we are now working on our game plan and defence.”

The Central Cheetahs are scheduled to play warm-up games against the Southern Spears in Port Elizabeth next weekend and the new Australian franchise, the Western Force, on January 21.
