The Chiefs scored five tries to three to beat the Highlanders 38-21 in a pre-season Rebel Sport Super 14 trial in Queenstown. The Highlanders beat the Crusaders five days ago and the Chiefs were expected to be a little out of sync as it was the Chiefs first warm up match of the season.

With 15 minutes to go Vilimoni Delasau scored a classic try for Highlanders and it didnt look good for the Chiefs. However the Chiefs fought back with tries in the last minutes from Steven Bates, Liam Messam, Brendan Leonard & Murray Williams.

The result will be very dissapointing for the Highlanders coming off a Crusaders win but they were punished for their inaccuracies and poor passing.

Openside Highlanders flanker Tim Boys had a good game.
