Chiefs player Sione Lauaki visited a surgeon today and the outcome is that the pectoral muscle tear is serious. Currently he is seeking a second opinion, but the likelihood of surgery is increasing.

Confirmation of whether he willl need surgery is expected by the end of the week and if he does need surgery it would require a three month layoff from rugby.

Utility back David Hill, who missed the last two weeks with a knee/calf injury is still suffering with the injury and remains unavailable for this week.

Midfield back Mark Ranby is also struggling with a hamstring injury and will continue to be assessed.

Its unlikely that Utility back Mils Muliaina, who was injured in the win over the Stormers last week, will play this week as he has been diagnosed with a possible groin tear.

Captain Jono Gibbes, who is struggling with a back/rib strain and has been restricted to light training this week, but is expected to be available for Friday.
