The Chiefs and the Brumbies have both qualified for the Super Rugby play offs and there is the possibility that they could meet again next weekend in the playoffs.
This weekend the Chiefs have home advantage and they will want a good performance to set them up for the knockout stages.
We are waiting for the kick-off.
.00: BEEP! BEEP! We are underway in New Zealand where the Chiefs are up against a weakened Brumbies side, who are resting players for the playoffs.
.00: The Brumbies win a penalty and kick into Chiefs’ territory.
.00: It is all the Brumbies, who have all the possession and territory, but Wharenui Hawera knocks on, giving away their early pressure.
.00: some early handling errors by both teams at Waikato Stadium in Hamilton. The Brumbies have the scrum inside the Chiefs’ half. The first two scrums have been dominated by the Kiwis, despite weighing 35 kilogrammes less than the Aussie pack.
.00: Another knock on at a short lineout by the Brumbies, sees them cough up good field position.
.00: Damian McKenzie and James Lowe combine to take the Chiefs from inside their 22 all the way to the Brumbies’ try line. The Brumbies clear, but the home team has a lineout inside their 22.
.00: The chiefs bash the ball up with Michael Leitch and win the penalty; they might opt for a scrum in centre field, but instead, they choose a kick at goal.
.00: McKenzie slots the kick and the Chiefs lead: 3-0
.00: TRY Damian McKenzie! Charlie Ngatai punches the ball up in midfield. Tawera Kerr-Barlow gets quick ball and passes to Solomon Alaimalo, who joined the line. The wing made the break and sent the fullback away for the game’s first try: 8-0
.00: The conversion is good: 10-0
.00: Lowe is tackled high, but the referee plays on and the chiefs go deep into the Brumbies’ territory. Some good work at the ruck gives possession back to the Aussies.
.00: TRY Nigel Ah Wong! The centre bursts through two defenders to score his second try of the season in only his second start: 10-5
.00: Hawera adds the extras: 10-7
.00: From the lineout after the penalty, the Chiefs keep possession, going 13 phases inside the Brumbies 22. The home team shift the ball wide and Solomon Alaimalo is tackled into touch near the corner flag. the ball went forwards before going out, so the Australians have the scrum on their five-metres line.
.00: Kane Hames gets a big shove and the Chiefs win the penalty. The home team go quickly with a cross-field kick, but McKenzie can’t gather. The TMO Ben Skeen is checking for the try or knock on. Henry Speight gets to the loose ball and grounds it. It will be a 22 five-metre for the Brumbies.
.00: The Brumbies are offsides; they had possession but lost it immediately after some sloppy handling. McKenzie is calling for the kicking tee.
.00: PENALTY! McKenzie makes no mistake: 13-7
.00: NO TRY! James Lowe scores after what looks like a forward pass to McKenzie. The try is overturned after the referee Ben O’Keeffe checks with Ben Skeen. It is the right call because the ball is forwards out of Lowe’s hands in the build up.
.00: The Brumbies win the penalty for offsides after going eight phases. They are using one-off ball runners in the tight phases around the fringes of the ruck to get momentum. Hawera will kick at goal.

.00: PENALTY! It is good from the standoff: 13-10
The half-time score is Chiefs 13 Brumbies 10

.00: The Brumbies lose their lineout, but some good shift-defence by the Aussies halts another attack in the wide channels.
.00: Scott Fardy is being spoken to by the referee, who instructs the captain to tell his players that the next infringement for not rolling away, will be yellow carded.
.00: The last five minutes’ territory has been dominated by the home team – 96 percent to four. Tom Cusack wins his team a penalty at the breakdown and the Brumbies can release the pressure with a clearance.
.00: McKenzie cuts through the Brumbies’ back line and sends a long pass to Alaimalo. the wing is tackled and the Brumbies win another penalty at the breakdown. Great scramble defence by the visitors, but McKenzie is carving them up.

His angled running and nifty footwork, coupled with good handling are tearing the Brumbies apart. Only good rucking is saving the Brumbies.
