Highlanders captain Shane Christie has praised his team-mates character after they held on to beat the Brumbies 9-15 in Canberra.

The Highlanders victory keeps the defence of their title alive for at least another week as they progress to the Semi-finals while the Brumbies have been eliminated.

Highlanders Waisake Naholo and Liam Squire scored the only two tries in the match while fly-half Lima Sopoaga landed a conversion and a penalty

“We dug in over the last 15 minutes and showed good character,” said Highlanders skipper Shane Christie.

Over the last three weeks the Highlanders have played in South Africa, Argentina, New Zealand and now this week in Australia.

Where they play next week could be either at home in New Zealand or in South Africa but Christie did not want to focus on the travel and just focused on next week’s semi-finals.

“It was always going to be difficult coming over here but we’re stoked and we’re in the semi-finals now and we look forward to the week ahead.”

The Highlanders will travel to Sydney where they will wait for the other results which will determine where they play next week.
