Crusaders beat Stormers in Christchurch

Seven time champions the Crusaders are the only team who remain unbeaten going into round 9 and this week they face the Stormers.

At the start of last week only the Crusaders and Stormers were unbeaten but the Cape Town side fell to the Lions in Round 8.

We are waiting for the kick off.

The Stormers kick off and the match is underway.

1.00: The Stormers win an early penalty and they choose to kick for posts.

2.00: Robert du Preez takes the kick but misses.

5.00:The Crusaders try to run the ball from deep but the Stormers rush defence comes up and forces them into touch. Dan du Plessis has been replaced due to injury.

9.00 The Stormers go through 9 phases on attack. They are called back for a high tackle penalty. Du Preez takes the kick and nails it. Stormers lead.

11.00: The Crusaders go through 5 phases on attack in the Stormers 22. On the 6th phase Crotty pops the ball to George Bridge who crashes through Nizaam Carr’s tackle and scores. TRY!

13.00: Richie Mo’unga adds the conversion. Crusaders lead.

18.00: Penalty to the Crusaders. Richie Mo’unga lines up the kick and nails it. Crusaders lead by 7.

21.00: The Crusaders go on the attack after a scrum on the Stormers 5m line. The Stormers defend their line and keep the Crusaders out until they knock on. An update on the Dan du Plessis injury is that he will be taken to hospital with a suspected dislocated shoulder.

23.00: The Crusaders have a scrum but it has to be reset. The scrum completes after a couple of resets which eat up time.

27.00: The Crusaders win a penalty for offside on the half way line. They kick for touch and set up the line out.

28.00: The Crusaders win the line out and attack the Stormers by going to the right and then cut back in and Bridge goes in for his second untouched. TRY!

30.00: Mo’unga adds the conversion.

31.00: The Stormers win a line out and kick upfield but they catch themselves offside so the Crusaders have a penalty. They take the line out.

32.00:The Crusaders win the line out and spread the ball wide – too quick for the Stormers – where Bridge is wide open and scores his third TRY!

33.00: Mo’unga adds the conversion.

36.00: The Crusaders build up their attack in the Stormers half. They stretch the defence by going wide quickly again and this time Kieran Read is open and he runs in the fourth Crusaders try untouched.

38.00; The conversion is missed by Mo’unga.

40.00; the Crusaders go through 12 phases on attack gradually pressing the Stormers back. It’s relentless from the Crusaders. They go wide to the other side and this time Read is there again and he runs in his second try untouched. TRY!

Richie Mo’unga adds the conversion. The Stormers have missed 12 tackles and the Crusaders 1.

The second half is underway.

42.00: The Stormers get the perfect start as Cheslin Kolbe gets an intercept and races in to score the Stormers opening TRY.

42.00: Du Preez adds the conversion.

46.00: The Crusaders win their scrum and run at the Stormers. They get to the half way line and are stopped and the Stormers turn the ball over and kick deep to the Crusaders.

48.00 : The Crusaders kick to the Stormers who run the ball back at them. They go through several phases but then knock on.

50.00: Penalty to the Stormers. They take the line out option and kick for touch.

52.00: The Stormers win the line out and go through the phases testing the Crusaders. They go wide with a wobbly pass that bounces on the ground. Bjorn Basson dodges a tackle with the ball and scores. TRY!

53.00: Du Preez adds the conversion.

58.00: Penalty to the Crusaders. They take the line out and kick for touch.

59.00: The Crusaders win the line out and drive over the line with the maul which had to change direction a couple of times before going over. The ball looks to have been grounded and the TMO confirms. TRY! Michael Alaalatoa

59.00: Mo’unga adds the conversion.

61.00: The Stormers get away as Dillyn Leyds careves through the Crusaders. The Stormers go wide but Pete Samu gets an intercept and races for the line and scores. 80m TRY!

62.00: Mo’unga adds the conversion and the Crusaders have hit the 50 point mark.

66.00: The Stormers go through 9 phases inside the Crusaders half. 11 phases, 13 , 12 and on the 14th Kolbe slips through three tackles and Frans Malherbe gets the ball and dots it down at the base of the posts. TRY!

Du Preez adds the conversion.

72.00: Penalty to the Stormers – hands in the ruck – as the Crusaders advance into the Stormers 22. The Stormers kick for touch to the half way line.

75.00: The Stormers sustain some pressure from the Crusaders and then get the ball into touch 5m from the Crusaders line.

76.00: The Crusaders win the line out and clear the ball into touch.

77.00: The Stormers continue to bang away at the Crusaders but as they get into the 22 Manasa Mataele gets an intercept and races in to score the 8th Crusaders try.

78.00: Mo’unga adds the conversion.

80.00: As the siren sounds Scott Barrett sets up Pete Samu who scores the 9th try for the Crusaders. The TMO will review it. No try as a player was taken out in the air.  Penalty to the Stormers.

81.00: The Stormers win the line out and run at the Crusaders.

The whistle goes and the Crusaders have won.
