Dagg: Crusaders ready for new Super Rugby era

Crusaders back Israel Dagg is now one of the senior players

Former All Black and Crusaders back Israel Dagg says he is aware of the pressure on him as one of the senior players in the 2016 Crusaders squad.

The 2016 Crusaders Super Rugby squad has a new look to it after players such as Richie McCaw and Dan Carter moved on.

With eleven new players in the squad Dagg has become one of the senior players in the team he plans to keep his leadership role simple by setting an example.

“If I’m going to talk then I’ve got to do the walking as well so when I play, when I train, just play well and train well and that’s how people are going to follow you,” Dagg told Newshub.

Dagg revealed that the Christchurch side have used the pre-season to forge a new identity and that they are ready for a new era in Super Rugby.

“I think it’s a new era for us at the moment. We’ve had past players leave and we’ve had 10 to 12 new players coming in.”

“I think for us it’s just about every team has got that goal, everyone wants to win Super Rugby.”

Dagg is not playing currently as he is still in rehab from shoulder surgery after suffering an injury whilst playing for Hawke’s Bay last season.

“In about two weeks. I can tackle bags and do everything like that it’s just that game contact I haven’t done yet so just going to build into that,” Dagg said.
