Crusaders head coach Todd Blackadder has revealed that former All Black fullback Israel Dagg will make his playing comeback this weekend in Christchurch.

Dagg was called to join the Crusaders as injury back up for the team’s match against the Western Force but was not used.

Blackadder says that the 49-test All Black will be considered for selection this week at AMI Stadium.

Dagg missed selection for the Rugby World Cup and has only played 30 minutes for his University club since he injured his shoulder six months ago.

The Jaguares are expected to bring a number of their bigger names back for this week’s match against the Crusaders and Blackadder will want as much experience as he can get for the match.

“He will be in the mix somewhere this week,” Blackadder told Stuff about Dagg making his return.

Blackadder said that he was unconcerned about his lack of game time that Dagg has had this year.

“The amount of training you can put into these guys is unbelievable. We certainly would not expect him to be at his best coming back, but not far from it. He is itching to get out there.”

Blackadder rotated some of his playing combinations in the team’s matches on tour against the Sharks, Lions and Force and he has indicated that he will field his strongest sides in the coming matches against the Jaguares and the Brumbies before the bye.

“I definitely want to field our strongest side, but also believe we have depth in a lot of positions.”

“We have managed to re-charge some guys and are getting a good response from the guys.”
