David Nucifora has signed a two-year contract to coach the Blues in the Super 14 the New Zealand Rugby Union announced today.
Nucifora, the Blues’ technical advisor in 2005, replaces Peter Sloane who stepped down at the end of the 2005 season after four years in charge.
Assistant coach Joe Schmidt has been reappointed for a two-year term through to 2007.
Nucifora, 43, was head coach for the ACT Brumbies from 2002-2004 and guided them to the Super 12 title in 2004.
Blues Chief Executive Officer David White said the Blues franchise was delighted with the appointments.
‘David has a proven track record as a coach and made an important contribution to the side this year. Joe, in his first year with the Blues, proved himself at this level and we expect him to continue to develop over the coming years,’ said White.
The appointment of additional coaching resources for the team will be made over the next few months.
David Nucifora’s appointment means that he will not be involved in the Auckland NPC coaching team this season.
