‘We are not going to panic after one loss,’ commented Sharks Coach Dick Muir after the Sharks lost 18-29 to the Cheetahs at The Absa Stadium Durban tonight (Saturday 3 September).

‘They (the Cheetah’s) played a negative game that worked for them. Their tactic was to slow the ball down, it’s not how we expected them to play, and we were unable to adapt.

‘We struggled to get points on the board which was disappointing,’ he added. ‘When we gave them possession they got momentum going. The possession we did get was not the quality possession we are used to.

‘They drove us well in the line-outs and their defence was outstanding. Our tackling let us down, we waited for them to run at us. Our kicking options were poor; we kicked when we shouldn’t have done so and our handling errors also let us down, particularly when at one stage we did have good momentum

‘We were outsmarted today and the endless stoppages by the referee (Tappe Henning) did not aid our cause. It definitely broke our rhythm.

‘It was a disappointing team effort. Tactically we didn’t play them correctly ‘ and I take the rap for that.

‘I am however still confident that this side is capable of beating any team.’
