Queensland Super Rugby franchise the Reds will contest their match against the Jaguares without captain James Slipper and quite possibly Quade Cooper.

Slipper has returned home from ther tour of South Africa and Argentina immediately, after suffering a ruptured Achilles in his side’s loss to the Lions in Johannesburg.

He will be replaced on the tour by prop Phil Kite, who trained with the squad throughout the pre-season.

Reds head coach Nick Stiles said: “It’s obviously really disappointing for James to suffer such a serious injury this early in the season. We’ll miss his contributions on the field, but knowing the sort of bloke he is, he’ll still be heavily involved from the sidelines.

“We’re fortunate that we’ve got Stephen Moore in the side, who is the current Wallabies skipper. He will take over the captaincy in Slipper’s absence.”

Quade Cooper was red carded during the Reds loss to the Lions and a SANZAAR Foul Play Review Committee has decided that the playmaker will will appear at a SANZAAR Judicial Committee Hearing.

Cooper is alleged to have contravened Law 10.4(e) Dangerous tackling of an Opponent during the match between the Lions and Reds at Emirates Airlines Park, Johannesburg on 18 March 2017.

The Judicial Committee for the Hearing will be Terry Willis (Chairman), De Wet Barry and Mike Mika which will be held by video conference at time to be determined following consultation between the Reds and SANZAAR.
