The Highlanders will be looking to launch the new season in style in their Rebel Sport Super 14 opener against the Blues!

‘We want to kick off the season in style this year, and we spent quite a bit of time last year speaking to people about what they do and don’t enjoy about the match experience’, says Chris Green, Marketing Manager for the Highlanders.

‘As well as responses regarding the opposition (games against New Zealand teams are generally supported better), people did talk about the ability to come and experience live music and entertainment.

This year, we are looking to open the season with a concert by one of New Zealand’s most well known bands, The Feelers”When we looked at the live options available, The Feelers struck us as a band that is suitable for all generations, and would be supported very heavily by the youth of Dunedin.

There are many quality bands and acts in New Zealand, and the Feelers have a reputation for being a great live act, and have a selection of hits that everyone in the stadium can enjoy and sing along to.

With songs such as Playground Battle and Larger than Life we look forward to having them here. People can come and enjoy them seated or standing, and with the return of the standing terraces, we are sure that part of the ground will be pumping! Our ticket prices begin at $15 for terrace standing, which is great value for money to see both the band and also experience an international quality game of rugby’

As well as the party atmosphere that is typical for the Super 14 clashes against the Blues, especially given that students are returning at that time, the game also has a more formal side to it with the Gordon Hunter Memorial trophy being played for.

The Blues are the current holders of the trophy, and The Highlanders are determined to play well and win the trophy back in honour of a man who gave so much to Otago and Highlanders rugby.
