Hurricanes captain Dane Coles has admitted that they were surprised to have beaten the Crusaders with a bonus point in Christchurch.

The Hurricanes moved to the top of the standings overall but could be overtaken by the Lions if they can leave Buenos Aires with a point for the standings.

Even if the Lions do finish the season on top of the standing the Hurricanes have been confirmed as New Zealand’s top team and they have won the New Zealand Conference.

The pay off for finishing on top of the standings in NZ is that they will be the only NZ team that will be playing at home in next week’s quarter finals.

The Hurricanes outscored the Crusaders by five tries to one in the match and Coles said taht

“I didn’t expect to get a bonus point – I am not going to lie,” Hurricanes captain Cole told Stuff.

“I knew we could perform and get the result, but to get the bonus point was pretty pleasing. ”

“The last month of footy for us has been outstanding.”
