The Hurricanes and the Chiefs kick off the Super Rugby quarter-finals in Wellington for a rematch of the game that was played last week and won 28-24 by the Chiefs in Hamilton.

This week, though, the Hurricanes have home advantage. Earlier this season the teams met in Wellington and that match was won 25-13 by the Hurricanes.

Match detail

We are waiting for the kick-off.

Jeff Toomaga-Allen starts his 100th Super Rugby match.

.00: PEEEEP! We are underway in Wellington.

.00: TRY! WOW! What a start. Julian Savea intercepts Damian McKenzie’s long floated skip-pass and races from the halfway line to score his 49th Super Rugby try for the Canes. 5-0

.00: CONVERSION! Beauden Barrett adds the extras. 7-0

.00: Julian Savea intercepts again and runs from his 22 to the Chiefs 22, but this time he is caught by Anton Lienert-Brown and Shaun Stevenson.

.00: The Chiefs win possession, then a penalty at the scrum. Phew! It’s all happening.

.00: TRY! Impressive reply from the Chiefs as Brad Weber crosses. Beauden Barrett went for the intercept, but could not reach the ball. Nathan Harris, the hooker, sells the dummy and offloads to Stevenson on the sideline. Weber, in support, runs in untouched. 7-5

.00: CONVERSION! Damian McKenzie levels. 7-all

.00: The Canes win a penalty in front of the sticks and will take a shot.

.00: PENALTY! Barrett makes no mistake. 10-7

.00: The Chiefs are making metres into the Hurricanes 22, but they give away a cheap penalty while in possession. Barrett clears.

.00: Gareth Evans surges through the ruck, wins the turnover and Barrett grubbers into the opposition’s 22.

.00: Ricky Riccitelli runs interference, is pinged, allowing McKenzie to kick to the Hurricanes 22.

.00: Another penalty is conceded by the hosts, and again, the Chiefs kick to the corner, turning down the chance to level.

.00: The Chiefs go a dozen phases, punching the ball up in midfield. McKenzie and Charlie Ngatai both go close before the Canes get caught offsides.

.00: PENALTY! McKenzie levels the scores. 10-all

.00: The breeze is playing havoc with the kickers and the high-ball chasers; it will be a big factor tonight.

.00: It’s the Hurricanes turn to go through the phases. Nehe Milner-Skudder puts boot to the ball so the Chiefs will have a defensive lineout.

.00: McKenzie tries to run the ball out of his 22, but is tackled and gives away a penalty for holding. Riccitelli channelled his inner Richie McCaw and won the penalty. Barrett kicks to the corner.

.00: Beauden Barrett snipes for the line, is tackled by Brodie Retallick, and the ball is lost forward. Scrum to the visitors on their line.

.00: The Hurricanes have a 5m scrum under the poles and have split their backs.

.00: TMO REVIEW! TRY! TJ Perenara breaks to the left, is tackled and reaches for the line. McKenzie and Lachlan Boshier tackled the scrumhalf, who loses the ball forward in the act of grounding, but the TMO says it “was not clear and obvious” that the ball was lost forward. 15-10

.00: CONVERSION! Barrett extends the lead. 17-10

.00: Some more big defence by the Canes, who win another penalty at the breakdown, allowing Barrett to kick into Chiefs territory.

.00: The Hurricanes are almost caught out on the sideline, but the no-look pass is lost forward.

.00: Milner-Skudder loses the ball forward after some messy play by both sides. Chiefs have the scrum in centre-field.

.00: Ngatai knocks on with the visitors in good attacking position. They regain the ball but give away a penalty. Perenara kicks to touch: halftime.

The halftime score is Hurricanes 17 Chiefs 10

.00: PEEEEP! We are back underway in New Zealand.

.00: Weber’s kick, is into touch. The Hurricanes only had 33 percent possession and 31 percent territory in the opening 40 minutes.

.00: Referee Glen Jackson pings the Chiefs for collapsing the maul; Barrett, using the wind in the second-half, clears to halfway.

.00: Lineout to the hosts on the visitor’s 22.

.00: The Hurricanes go 14 phases before a poor pass by Ngani Laumape, goes forward, stopping the attack.

.00: Mr Jackson has a word with the props about the two previous scrums, which were poor.

.00: TRY! Lienert-Brown finishes off an opportunistic attack after McKenzie’s kick was held up in the breeze. Boshier gathered the ball after it bounced kindly for him. He raced his way into the 22, the ball was recycled quickly and flung wide by Damian McKenzie to the centre for the score. 17-15

.00: McKenzie’s kick goes over the goal-line after the Chiefs went a dozen phases. Both teams ringing the changes.

.00: Jordie Barrett is held-up over the try-line. Jordie was instrumental in two breaks during the 10-phase attack. Scrum, 5m out.

.00: TRY! Perenara is over for his 48th Super rugby try. It was a big scrum by his forwards, allowing the No 9 to beat Weber and score. 25-17

.00: MISS! Barrett’s kick rebounds off the post. 25-17

.00: Blade Thomson wins the lineout and the Canes attack.

.00: TRY! Ben Lam collects Jordie Barrett’s pass and is over in the corner after beating Damian McKenzie. The big man always beats the small man. It is Lam’s 15th try of the season. 30-17

.00: CONVERSION! Huge kick from Jordie Barrett, slotting the touchline kick which means the Chiefs must score three times in less than 10 minutes to reach the semi-finals. 32-17

.00: Time is running out for the Waikato men.

.00: The Chiefs are dead and buried, but are still looking for the chalk.
