The Lions and the Jaguares have only played each other twice. Both matches were won by the team playing at home so the record is one match victory for both teams.

Last year the Lions took a second string team to Buenos Aires and were beaten 34-22.

Match detail

We are waiting for the kick-off.

BEEP! Nicolás Sánchez gets the game underway.

.00: There’s a high tackle, advantage being played for the hosts, and the ref comes back to the penalty spot. Sánchez kicks for touch and they have a line-out on the 22.

.00: Jaguares retain the ball in the line-out but knock it on inside Lion’s 5 metre.

.00: TRY JAGUARES! The home team are on the board early – a theme of this weekend’s games – through fullback Joaquín Tuculet.

.00: Tomás Lezana’s break, near the touch line, set up Tuculet who burst over for the try-line. TMO checks and awards the score. Sánchez misses.

.00: PENALTY! Sánchez steps up and it’s good. Lions have started poorly and are eight behind inside 10 minutes.

.00: The home team is dominating the breakdown. They’ve won 11 rucks to four already (both teams with a turnover).

.00: Lions have a line-out on their 10-metre line, but it’s stolen by Jaguares. The ref penalises the Jaguares for not releasing the ball and Shaun Reynolds slots the kick downfield for a line-out.

.00: Again the Lions opt to kick to touch and retain the ball.

.00: TRY LIONS! The ball is shifted wide on the five-metre line and skipper Warren Whiteley goes over for the score.

.00: Shaun Reynolds slots over the easy conversion and the visitors are up and running.

.00: From the restart, the Lions knock the ball forward and it’s a scrum just outside their 10. The scrum is reset. Jaguares win a penalty and kick to touch inside the Lions’ 22.

.00: TRY JAGUARES! They attack wide and work the phases inside. Sanchez offloads to Ramiro Moyano to finish.

.00: Sánchez adds the two.

.00: YELLOW CARD! Andries Ferreira is sent to the bin for another ruck infringement.

.00: Jags back on the attack and with an extra man. Lions under pressure not to concede.

.00: PENALTY! Lions penalised at the ruck. Jags point to the posts.

.00: Sánchez kicks his second from 40 metres and gives his side an 11 point lead.

.00: The Lions lose the ball with another handling error.

.00: The game is a bit stop-start. The Lions have double the amount of handling errors as their hosts and made double the tackles. Game stops for another penalty.

.00: Cronje feeds the scrum but the Lions are penalised. The Jags kick for touch and have a lineout.

.00: PENALTY! The South Africans are struggling here and could go further behind. Sánchez will take a shot at goal.

.00: Sánchez with his third three-pointer, extends the lead, with a simple kick. Lions are falling behind.

.00: Another knock on kills any momentum the visitors are hoping to build. Mistakes are costly at this level and it is proving true here in Argentia.

.00: Lions win a penalty on the Jaguares’ 10 metre and Whiteley opts for touch. Lions win the five-metre line-out, start a rolling maul but Reynolds fails to hold onto the ball and loses it forward.

.00: Jaguares have a lineout. Another score would put them three scores ahead just before the break. Lions will need to halt their march.

.00: Another lineout after a foot in touch. Nearly halftime in South America.

.00: PENALTY! Lions have a penalty just inside the Jaguares half and will have a shot.

.00: It’s no good from Reynalds and the Lions trail by two converted tries at the break.

The halftime score is Jaguares 21 Lions 7

BEEP! Game has restarted by the Lions.

.00: Cronje with a box-kick, gives possession to the Jaguares and they win a penalty on the Lions’ 10 – they’ll surely take a shot.

.00: Sánchez has a shot from distance but his kick hits the post and the Lions clear.

.00: PENALTY! The Lions are pinged for yet another infringement. They won’t win playing like this.

.00: Sanchez makes no mistake this time and the lead is 24-7.

.00: the Lions attack from the restart. Anthony Volmink and Jaco Van der Walt exchange passes near the touchline and set up attacking position. Lions go through the phases with some quick ball and the Jags are under pressure.

.00: Sánchez is penalised for a dodgy tackle. No card from referee Nick Briant. Reynolds to touch and line-out on the 5-metre line set.

.00: TRY! Lions start a rolling maul and  Jacques van Rooyen goes over for the score.

.00: Conversion is no good. That’ll do though for the visitors. Good start to the second period.

.00: Ramiro Moyano is on the 22 and again, the Jaguares are on the attack.

.00: TRY! Jags have a five-metre scrum inside the Lions’ half, retain the ball and use the forwards to get them over the advantage line. They shift it wide and Jerónimo de la Fuente goes around the defence for his team’s third try.

.00: The conversion is missed.

.00: YELLOW CARD! Oh no! The Lions lose their second man to the bin, this time it is Robbie Coetzee on the wrong side of Mr Briant and the law.

.00: TRY! GAME OVER! The Jaguares score their fourth after some good passing sets up Nicolás Sánchez for the five-pointer.

.00: The flyhalf converts his try and the lead is now 24 points.

.00: Dylan Smith saves the Lions, stealing the ball and setting up an attack deep in their half.

.00: Pablo Matera fails to release the tackler and the Lions have a penalty on the Jaguares’ 10-metre line. They kick for touch.

.00: Lots of kicking before the Lions put the ball out.

.00: Scrum is reset and a penalty, against Lucas Noguera Paz, gives Lions time to clear.

.00: Lions, again, miss their jumper in the lineout and Juan Martín Hernández clears the danger.

.00: YELLOW CARD! The standard sin-binning for the Jags. From the line-out, the Lions collect the ball and set up an attack. The referee punishes Tomás Lezana with a yellow for entering the ruck from the side.

.00: TRY LIONS! Malcolm Marx somehow powers his way over from close.

.00: Conversion is no good.

.00: TRY! Whiteley gets his second but it’s too little too late for the Lions.

.00: Jaco van der Walt slots over the extras.

.00: BEEP, BEEP! The referee blows the final whistle after the siren. The Jags are victorious with a well-deserved win in Buenos Aires.
