Blues captain Jerome Kaino looks set to spend the next month of Super Rugby on the sidelines after injuring his shoulder in the Blues 25-all draw with the Reds.

All Blacks flanker Kaino is understood to have sprained his AC joint which would take up to four weeks to recover from.

Kaino was treated for the injury early on in the match and was forced to leave the field in the second half after which the medical staff put his arm in a sling.

The Blues have a bye next week and then in Round 6 they are at home in Auckland for a match against the Jaguares.

It is expected that hooker James Parsons will take over the Blues captaincy just as he did when Kaino missed the opening round match due to a suspension.
