Lions Super Rugby head coach Johan Ackermann has named Jaco Kriel to captain the Lions in their Super Rugby match against the Sunwolves at Emirates Airline Park on Saturday.

Ackermann has included all of his Springboks and SA ‘A’ players for this clash with the exception of captain Warren Whiteley.

Whiteley was ruled out with a pelvis injury and is expected to be side-lined for up to eight weeks. In his absence Jaco Kriel will captain the side.

It is the Lions’ penultimate Super Rugby match before the play-offs start.

The team has a bye next week and travel to Durban to take on the Sharks on 15 July.

The Quarter Final is scheduled for 22 July.
