The Lions hopes of winning this year’s Super Rugby title have suffered a blow as their inspirational captain Warren Whiteley has been ruled out for up to four weeks.

The Lions captain left the field injured in the Lions loss to the Blues at home in Johanesburg on Saturday and will now miss the next month of rugby.

Whiteley injured his knee on Saturday and in the 25th minute had to leave the field and now the Lions have confirmed that Whiteley has a grade II PCL injury and is expected to be out of action for up to four weeks.”

The Lions play the win-less Sunwolves at home this weekend but they then travel to Buenos Aires to play the Jaguares before returning to play the Crusaders and Stormers.

The Lions have a bye in week 9 and coach Swys de Bruin will be hoping to have his captain back for the trip in Rd.10 to Sydney where the Lions play the Waratahs.

The Lions then play the Reds, Hurricanes and Highlanders on tour.
