Super Rugby moves to Johannesburg South Africa in the second match in Round 6 where the Lions host the Crusaders.

The Lions had a bye last week but before their bye the Lions beat the Cheetahs in Johannesburg. This means that they have not had to travel around their bye as some teams do.

The Crusaders played the Sharks in Durban last week so this is their second match on tour. Last week’s victory over the Sharks was the Crusaders third in a row with a bye in between.

The Lions have included Elton Janties in their team for this week but he has been bracketed with Marnitz Boshoff and his participation will depend on whether he fully recovers from a hand injury or not.

Elswhere the Lions back line is unchanged but in the forwards Warwick Tecklenburg returns from suspension and replaces Ruan Ackermann who drops to the bench.

Coach Johan Ackermann has also bracketed Andries Ferreira/Lourens Erasmus in the front row.

Crusaders coach Todd Blackadder has named a team with four changes Prop Wyatt Crockett wears the number 1 jersey this week, rotating with Joe Moody who will take a spot on the bench.

Luke Romano and Scott Barrett are the starting locks, with Sam Whitelock in the replacements. Jimmy Tupou and Jordan Taufua have also rotated, with Tupou starting at 6 this week and Taufua preparing to make an impact off the bench.

The starting back line is unchanged from last week, but Sean Wainui joins the replacements to make a 5/3 forwards/backs split on the bench.

The Lions have played the Crusaders 16 times in Super Rugby and they have won 13 of the matches. That gives the Lions a record of winning 19% of their matches against the Christchurch side.

The Lions have hosted the Crusaders in eight of the 16 matches and the Lions have won 2 matches and lost six which gives them a record of winning 25% of their home matches.

The average score when the Lions play the Crusaders in Johannesburg is Lions 24 Crusaders 28.

Both teams have played four matches and won three. They have both had one bye but the Crusaders have one more point than the Lions on 14 compared to 13.

In last week’s match against the Sharks the Crusaders were a little sloppy with their passing and it almost cost them the match. The coach picked up on this straight away and their passing will be much better this week.

The Bookies have given the Lions a 2 point start for this Match – with an offer of up to $200 in Bonus bets. Both teams are enjoying good form but the Lions might be a little rusty from the bye last week. The Crusaders should edge this by four.

This Match will be shown on TV in NZ, Aus, SA and in the UK on Sky Sports 5.

Once again we see the absolute paucity of Match Officals allocation The entire team officiating in the Lions V Crusaders are all South Africans. Isn’t it about time Lyndon Bray or whoever allocates match official produced an non-partisan balanced team>
