Blues mid-field back Luke McAlister has suffered a fractured cheekbone following the match against the Chiefs on Saturday night in Hamilton.

McAlister came off mid-way through the first half, after receiving a blow to the face.

McAlister had surgery today and his expected recovery time is three to four weeks.

Blues coach David Nucifora is extremely disappointed for both McAlister and the rest of the team.

‘This is a significant facial injury and a major blow for Luke. It also comes at a crucial time in the competition, just before we head overseas, so I am also disappointed for the rest of the squad to be losing such a key member,’ says Nucifora.

The Blues team to play the Cheetahs this Friday night will be named on Tuesday.
