The NZ media is being berated for releasing the name of an arrested All Black before the courts had the chance to suppress it.

Chiefs flanker Sione Lauaki was offered diversion yesterday after admitting to an assault in Hamilton last month. He will reappear in court next month, when he will be discharged without conviction.

Chiefs CEO Gary Dawson is angry at the media for cutting across the court process by naming Lauaki before he got to court, stripping him of his rights.

He has described some of the reporting on the case as sensational and biased. He is backed by lawyer Wally Bain, who says he has a right to be mad.

Oops, our Apologies Gary. Ed.
