Former South African Sevens captain Jonathan Mokuena will make his debut for the Griffons when they face the SWD Eagles in a Absa Currie Cup First League match in Welkom on Saturday.

Mokuena will start at No 8, while Free State No 8 Ashley Johnson will start on the bench. The Griffons, who seem to be a major contender for honours this season, also have exciting young fullback Cecil Africa back from the national Under-20 team.

He was one of the stars of the South African side that took third place at the U-20 World Cup last weekend. Africa forms part of a strong-looking backline which includes Giscard Pieters, Phillip Snyman and former Eagles flyer Darryl Coeries.

The Griffons also have a few trump-cards up front where Jaco Louw, Andries Kruger and Sarel Louw form a formidable front row.

They also have Windpomp van Rooyen to strenghten their line-out play.

The Griffons team is:

Cecil Afrika, Giscard Pieters, Phillip Snyman, Bernard Theissinger, Darryl Coeries, Johan van Niekerk, Danny Theron, Jonathan Mokuena, Ockie van Zyl, Alberts Parsons, Isak van der Westhuizen, Windpomp van Rooyen, Jaco Louw, Andries Kruger, Sarel Louw.

Replacements: Ashley Johnson, Gert Greyling, Sandile India, Nickey Steyn, Boela Abrahams, Werner Griesel, Shane Hancke.
