Despite pulling away from the Blues to record a convincing semi-final victory, coach Dick Muir has said that a similar peformance may not be enough to garner the Super 14 title next week.

Muir cited the second half lull of the Sharks, which saw the Blues temporarily reel them in as cause for concern.

“In that early second half period we really played poorly.

“That said, the way the guys ground out the victory for us is just fantastic, but you can’t go into a lull like that and expect to win the competition.

“But the victory is fantastic for our people, and we look forward to the final next week.”

Speaking ahead of the Bulls’ victory Muir said it “did not matter who they played in the final”.

“It will be fantastic for our rugby if the Bulls pull through but it doesn’t matter who we play, it’s another game.”

Meanwhile skipper John Smit said his team had been fortunate to push through late for the convincing win.

“The game could have gone any way, but the fresh edge our late substitutes provided, with their hard month of touring behind them sealed the victory for us.”
