The struggling Blues Super Rugby team are likely to be given a boost for their match this weekend against the Hurricanes with the return of captain Keven Mealamu.

Blues coach Pat Lam says that Mealamu is likely to make his return from a calf injury but says that his fellow front rower Tony Woodcock is extremely doubtful.

Lam said that Woodcock's calf injury is not serious enough to threaten his place in the All Blacks squad that will play Ireland but he is unlikely to play this week.

"He should be alright for the week after, I think it's a bit of precaution, it's just tough as a prop. "

"Same with Kevvie, we need to give them a bit longer, I think if they were outside backs or something like that it might be a bit better."

However outside back Rudi Wulf is unlikely to play this week and is rated as extremely doubtful after he injured his shoulder against the Reds.

"He put a pretty big hit in just after half time, so he'll be touch and go. Just want to make sure that's not recurring as well," Lam told Newstalk ZB.

Former Hurricane Ma'a Nonu is expected to face his former side as Lam says that the All Black's thigh injury has not been deemed as too serious.
