The Sharks have named their 30-man squad for the 2011 Super Rugby series which starts on Saturday for the Sharks when they meet the Cheetahs at Kings Park.

John Smit will captain the side with Stefan Terblanche deputising a strong squad that shows depth in every position.

Given the length of the tournament and number of games - 16 pool matches which is the most ever in the history of the tournament - squad depth is going to be tested and the teams who are likely to gain a place in the knock-out stages are likely to be those who have managed their players best - in terms of rotation, rest and recovery.

While luck may play a role in a team's fortunes, astute player management also can negate certain problems and as a controllable, good planning is vital.

There are no major surprises in the squad announced with the three new signings Meyer Bosman, Conrad Hoffmann and Jacques-Louis Potgieter all named while prop Sabelo Nhlapo has been included to add further depth in the front row and Anton Bresler rewarded for his good pre-season form adding to the second row stocks.
