The Sharks comfortably beat the Hurricanes after an impressive second half performance that saw the Sharks win 40-24 in Durban.
The teams were level on 13 points each at half time but the Hurricanes scored the first points of the second half with a try to Faifili Levave.
However the Sharks were clearly the better side as the match wore on and Lwazi scored the Sharks bonus point try 20 minutes from full time.
The Hurricanes discipline cost them dearly as yellow cards were shown to James Broadhurst and Ma'a Nonu.
Mvovo scored a brace of tries and Captain John Smit, Meyer Bosman and Ryan Kankowski also scored to help the home team to bonus-point victory.
A strong finish by the hosts coupled with the yellow-carding of Ma'a Nonu 10 minutes from the end helped John Plumtree's men end the contest strongly for their sixth win of the season.
They began the game nervously with Patrick Lambie missing a relatively straightforward kick - his first failure out of his last 13 attempts.
Moments later he redeemed himself by putting the hosts ahead with another penalty.
This one proving extremely costly for the visitors as they were reduced to 14 men with James Broadhurst yellow carded for stamping.
The Hurricanes were not deterred and replied in emphatic style when Nonu's dummy fooled Steven Sykes allowing the New Zealand centre to charge through and off-load for Cory Jane, who pulled up with a hamstring injury and had to go off after, to score the first try.
Daniel Kirkpatrick added the extras and, after Lambie missed another penalty, the Hurricanes flyhalf landed two more to stretch the lead to ten after the opening quarter.
Lambie then wasted another kick at goal, before the Sharks finally found some momentum just before the half-hour mark which led to their opening score.
Charl McLeod's quick tap-and-go near the halfway line orchestrated the initial shift with Smit's strong run and crouching movement taking him over for a first Super Rugby try of the season.
Lambie finally found his range with the conversion and followed up by adding a penalty from right in front to draw the hosts level.
The score remained unchanged until the break, but the visitors grabbed their second try straight after the restart.
An attempted McLeod clearance was charged down, before Nonu's run again caused havoc in the Sharks defence with the ball finally recycled to Faifili Levave to score.
Kirkpatrick slotted wide for the first time of the evening and when the Sharks kicked off again Mvovo found space on the left and charged over to tie the scores again.
Another Lambie miss left the teams deadlocked, but Kirkpatrick showed excellent skill to curl in a penalty from the right touchline to put the New Zealanders back in front.
More poor tackling from the hosts gave the visiting flyhalf another shot at goal which he successfully completed.
With the hour mark looming, the Sharks landed two decisive blows courtesy of tries by Bosman and Mvovo - the latter a breakaway by the Sharks winger from inside his own half.
Any chance of a comeback was then made more difficult after Nonu received a yellow card for illegally knocking the ball out of the hands of Tendai Mtawarira.
Lambie made it five out of ten with the kick, before Kankowski went over for a converted try to seal the win.
