The Reds have won the last two Super Rugby matches between the Reds and the Lions but weirdly the Reds have not beaten the Lions in Brisbane since 2005.

The Reds have played the Lions 14 times in Super Rugby history and the Reds have won 10 times and lost three. There was also a draw between the teams in Johannesburg during 2008.

The average score when the Reds play the Lions is Reds 28 and Lions 21. Having won 14 matches out of 10 the Reds have won 71% of their matches against the Lions.

The match this week is in Brisbane where the Reds and Lions have played each other six times and the Reds have won four and lost two.

In Brisbane when the Reds and Lions play each other the average score is Reds 24 Lions 19. However as mentioned above the Reds have not beaten the Lions since 2005.

In 2007 the Lions won 20-26 and in 2009 the Lions won 20-31. In 2010 and 2011 both matches were held in Johannesburg - and both were won by the Reds.

So, (here comes the strangest statistic for the weekend) while the Reds have not beaten the Lions in Brisbane since 2005 the Reds have not lost to the Lions since 2009.

The Lions have been struggling all season and last week lost their ninth straight Super Rugby match but have stuck with the exact same 22 players that lost 26-3 to the Blues who were bottom of the standings.

The Reds on the other hand knocked the Chiefs off the top spot and have found form. That's not all as Quade Cooper has been named in the starting line up for the first time this season.

Cooper will more than likely only play for the first half as the Reds will want to ease him back in. The cynics in us suspect that him being named in the starting line up has a bit more to do with ticket sales than his return to full fitness.

The Bookies have given the Lions a 19 point start for this match - with an offer of Bet 5 and Get 50 in Bets. The Reds should win this one comfortably. Reds to win by 14 with a bonus point for four tries.

This match will be shown on TV in NZ, Aus, SA and in the UK the Sky Sports HD4 Channel.

Average score: Reds 28 Lions 21
