Brumbies coach Jake White says he was pleased with the effort his young players showed despite team losing 15-25 to Wales at at Canberra Stadium on Tuesday.

Three first half tries have handed Wales their first win of the Australian tour and their first win in Canberra having been defeated in 1978 and again in 1996.

The exhibition clash was the perfect opportunity for the team's fringe players to justify their place in the squad with a different line-up named by coach Jake White.

Dylan Sigg, Tom Cox, Kimami Sitauti, Cam Crawford, Beau Mokotupu, JP Pradaud and Siliva Siliva all made their provincial debuts for the Brumbies while it was Ben Hand's first outing as skipper.

With regulars Ben Mowen, Ben Alexander, Stephen Moore, Pat McCabe, Nic White and Michael Hooper all missing from the match due to international commitments, the Brumbies went into the game as underdogs and let Wales get off to a strong start.

"The second half was much better, the first half was a bit disappointing but so long as our players learn lessons from the mistakes that we made in that first forty then we are making progress," White said.

"It was a fantastic opportunity for us. I'm thankful for Wales giving us a crack at them."

"They have a strong defensive line and have played together for some time."

"I don't think our guys are used to looking up and seeing 14 players in front of them every time."

"There's a lot to be positive about, particularly in the second half, but at the end of the day you play rugby because you want to win."
