Brumbies captain Ben Mowen has praised the Blues after they beat the Brumbies 16-30 in Canberra sending Jake White's charges into a nervous wait to find out if they will qualify for the play offs.

The Brumbies could have clinched first place in the Australia conference with a bonus-point loss but they could now be overtaken by the Reds and knocked out of the play offs completely.

Blues coach Pat Lam's men ended their poor season on a high as several players put their hands up ahead for All Black selection as it was their last chance to impress the selectors for the upcoming Rugby Championship.

"They certainly outplayed us and they had the right attitude," Mowen said, adding that his side's 34 missed tackles were a big reason for the loss.

"Defence is all about attitude, and all those missed tackles," he said.

"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves, but give a lot of credit to the Blues."

"We have plenty to work on, but for now, we'll just have to sit back and watch it unfold."
