Kane Thompson says that he is ready to step in for Chiefs co-captain Craig Clarke in the Super Rugby final against the Sharks in Hamilton.

Clarke is battling with a medial ligament strain in his right knee from the Semi-final against the Crusaders and will have to have a fitness test before the Chiefs can name him in the side.

However Kane Thompson says that he would be happy to make the move from lock to number eight if the Chiefs need him to.

"Nah that's where I've played most of my rugby so I'm comfortable there, definitely," he told Newstalk ZB.

"I enjoy playing both positions, obviously it's a different role but I'm very comfortable there, yeah."

Thompson says that he see little difference in the positions so he is happy to move.

"Certain roles you do differently but you're cleaning out the rucks, you're making your tackles and taking the ball up when you get a chance so not a great deal of difference."
