The player explained that the troublesome foot has plates in it and some of the screws have broken so he needs another operation.
Waldrom said on his Twitter account that he was looking forward to being back with his favourite team the Hurricanes next year but has had to pull out.
He also said that he was looking forward to the first summer in eight years where he does not have to watch what he eats.
Waldrom played for the Chiefs in this years title-winning campaign after joining them in 2010.
Before that he played six seasons for the Hurricanes and in 2003 he was with the Crusaders but only played one match
