The Brumbies have announced that they have signed former Rugby League coach Brian Smith as their defence/collision coach for the 2013 Super Rugby season.

Brumbies head coach Jake White attempted to bring in former Australian rugby league international Danny Buderus last month but was blocked by the NRL.

White is therefore thrilled to have brought a rugby league defence coach to Canberra in Smith who has coached Illawarra, St George, Newcastle, Parramatta and the Roosters.

"It is great to have someone of Brian's experience and skillset join the Brumbies coaching staff," said White.

"Brian will consult to the Brumbies and provide structured support around our defensive line and tackling."

Brian Smith was equally as excited about the opportunity to work with a young group of players.

"The opportunity to work with a talented young squad was very appealing. The Brumbies have put in place a first class program, and I hope that I will be able to contribute to success in 2013."

Smith brings a wealth of experience to the Brumbies having coached and played in many different environments. In a coaching career spanning in excess of 550 games, Smith has a winning ratio of 53%."

"He has coached extensively in Australia and the UK, and in 2010 was named Coach of the Year at the Dally M Awards."

In other news the Brumbies have linked with a Canberra based executive and specialist talent sourcing and consultancy firm, Cantlie who will be the exclusive Coaches Sponsor for the next three seasons.

Cantlie's logo will appear on the University of Canberra Brumbies coaches' collar, on the breast of their training gear and throughout the coaches' box on game day at Canberra Stadium.
