The Crusaders could get Zac Guildford back sooner than expected which would be a significant boost to their playing depth on the wing.
Guildford withdrew from the Crusaders squad after he was involved in another alcohol-related incident and has been given indefinite leave to sort out his problems.
It was thought that Kurt Baker would be promoted from the wider training group as a permanent replacement for Guildford until he injured himself playing in the Wellington sevens.
However Crusaders assistant coach Aaron Mauger has revealed that they are hoping Guildford will be able to get through the next few weeks and then potentially return to the squad.
Mauger told NewstalkZB that they will assess where Baker is with his hamstring injury later this week and are hoping that he will only be out for four weeks.
In the meantime, the Crusaders have already called in former Highlander Telusa Veainu and Mauger says that they will also consider playing Israel Dagg on the wing if needed.
